I detail cars all over Montrose, from driveways in the hills to apartment carports and curbsides. This is my plain guide to what the work involves and what it costs.
A car wash removes loose dirt. A detail addresses the car. That means the embedded grit a wash leaves behind in the paint, the mineral spots etched into the glass, the grime in the seams of the seats, the smell that comes back on hot days, the film on the inside of the windshield. It is closer to restoration than to cleaning, and it is measured in hours, not minutes.
That difference is why the prices are different. When someone in Montrose asks me why a detail costs more than ten drive through washes, the honest answer is that it does more than a hundred of them. A wash maintains a surface. A detail recovers it, then protects it with wax or sealant so it stays recovered longer. Both have a place. They are simply different products, and knowing which one you need saves you money in both directions.
Montrose cars live a specific life. A lot of them sleep on the street or in shared lots, which means sprinkler overspray, tree sap, and pollen with no garage to hide from any of it. The shopping district means tight parking and the occasional door edge scuff. And the commuters heading down to the 210 or over the 2 collect the steady film of brake dust and freeway grime that makes a silver car look gray.
Inside, it is the usual life of a family and commuter town: coffee in the cup holders, sunscreen on the armrests, dog hair from Deukmejian mornings, crumbs in the seat rails. None of this is a judgment. It is what cars are for. My job is resetting it, and knowing the local patterns means I show up already expecting most of what I am going to find.
If the outside is fine but the cabin has gotten away from you, the Interior Only Detail from $149 is the right call: upholstery cleaning, carpet shampoo and extraction, steam cleaning, and leather care if you have it. If the whole car needs attention, the Standard Interior/Exterior Detail from $189 covers inside and out with a coat of wax. Between them, those two cover most of the cars I do in Montrose.
The Standard Interior/Exterior Detail is for cars that need real correction or deserve real protection: $189 for a sedan, $209 for a small SUV or truck, $189 for a minivan or three row. It adds the deeper exterior work, including clay bar treatment and sealant protection. If you are prepping a car to sell, returning a lease, or you just want it genuinely right, this is the one I point people toward.
Then there are the targeted jobs: headlight restoration starting at $50, water spot removal, black trim restoration, scratch and scuff correction, engine detailing, odor removal. You do not have to know which one you need. Describe the problem and I will match it honestly, and if the answer is that a $50 headlight job helps more than a $189 package, that is exactly what I will tell you.
A lot of Montrose lives in apartments and condos, and the most common question I get is whether mobile detailing even works without a private driveway. It does. I have worked in assigned carport spaces and shared lots, and for the full wash you can bring the car to my shop. The main things I need are permission to work in the space and room to move around the car safely. Where a traditional wash is not practical, because of runoff rules, no water access, or a landlord who would rather not have suds in the lot, my eco waterless detail is built for exactly that. Cloudy headlights are the most cost effective fix in detailing. Restoration starts at $50 to start, takes far less time than a full detail, and the before and after is dramatic. On an older commuter, it changes the whole face of the car.
Black trim restoration is the same idea. The plastic goes chalky gray in our sun, and restoring it makes a ten year old car look cared for again. Add water spot removal for glass and paint, and light scuff correction for parking lot souvenirs, and you can meaningfully upgrade how a car presents without buying the full package.
