Why bother with the engine bay?

A clean engine bay not only looks impressive but also makes it easier to spot leaks and potential problems early on. Dust, oil film, and road grime hide the small weep of a gasket that is starting to go. Clean it all off and the next drip has nowhere to hide, which is exactly when you want to catch it.

It also matters when you sell. An engine bay that looks cared for tells a buyer the rest of the car probably was too.

How I do it safely

Engine bays are full of electronics, so this is not a pressure-washer-and-hope job. I work with degreaser, brushes, and controlled rinsing, keeping sensitive components protected, then dress the plastics so the bay looks the way it did when the car was new. About an hour of careful work: $50 for a sedan, $60 to $75 for larger vehicles.
