Headlight Restoration

Cloudy headlight lens before and after restoration by Eric's Mobile Auto Spa

The sun did this. I undo it.

Headlight lenses leave the factory with a UV clear coat. Years of Southern California sun degrade that coating, and the lens underneath goes cloudy and yellow. You notice it in the looks first and on dark roads second: a hazed lens scatters light instead of throwing it down the road.

Replacing headlight assemblies costs hundreds of dollars plus installation. Restoration brings your existing lenses back starting at $50, at your driveway, usually while I am already there detailing the rest of the car. I sand out the degraded layer in stages, polish the lens clear, and finish with protection.

One honest caveat: some headlights have internal microcracking and cannot be restored. Restoration works on the outside of the lens; if the damage is inside, no amount of polishing reaches it, and I will tell you that before you spend a dollar.

This page is the one my customers find when they search for headlight restoration in La Crescenta, and the before and after above is my own work, photographed on the job.

Questions I hear a lot

How much does headlight restoration cost?
It starts at $50, done in your driveway, and it is easy to add to any detail package. You will know the price prior to my beginning work, as nobody likes surprises!
Can every headlight be restored?
No. Some headlights have internal microcracking and cannot be restored, because the damage is inside the lens where polishing cannot reach. I will give you an honest read on your lenses before I start.
Is restoration better than replacement?
For most cloudy lenses, yes. New assemblies run hundreds of dollars plus installation, and the originals usually just need the degraded coating removed and the lens polished clear. If a lens is cracked or failing internally, I will tell you restoration is not the fix.
How long does it last?
The same sun that clouded them keeps working on them, so it depends on exposure. The protective finish I apply slows it down, and keeping the car waxed or garaged helps. I will give you an honest read on your lenses when I see them.
