Clay Bar and Wax

$60 with iron decontamination

Unlike waxing or protecting your finish, claying is used to fix a contaminated surface, pulling out what washing leaves behind.

Contaminated paint before and after clay bar treatment by Eric's Mobile Auto Spa

What is claying your car?

Unlike waxing or protecting your finish, claying is used to fix a contaminated surface. Industrial fallout, brake dust, sap residue, and overspray bond to your clear coat and washing slides right over them. Automotive clay shears those bonded contaminants off the surface, and I pair it with a chemical iron decontamination so the embedded metal particles dissolve instead of getting dragged around. The service is $60.

The baggie test

Want to know if your car needs it? Put your hand in a plastic sandwich baggie and run it lightly over your clean paint. If you feel bumps, it's time to clay your car. Smooth paint feels like glass through the plastic; contaminated paint feels like fine sandpaper.

While I am working on the paint, sticker removal is $15 on glass and $20 on paint, and tree sap removal is $5 per droplet, waived for my Monthly Plan customers because I keep your vehicle waxed and protected, making it easier to remove.

Questions I hear a lot

How do I know my car needs claying?
The plastic baggie test: run a bagged hand over clean paint. If you feel bumps, it is time to clay. If it feels like glass, save your money.
Does claying remove scratches?
No. Clay removes bonded contamination sitting on top of the paint. Scratches and swirls live in the clear coat and need machine polishing, which I also offer with real prices.
What does it cost?
$60, including chemical iron decontamination. It is also the mandatory prep stage before any machine polishing, because polishing over bonded grit just makes new scratches.
