Two of my most requested services sound similar but solve different problems. Here is how I help drivers in the Crescenta Valley choose between the Interior Only Detail and the Standard Interior/Exterior Detail.
If the inside of your car is the problem and the paint just needs a wash you could do yourself, book the Interior Only Detail at $149. If the whole car needs attention, inside and out, the Standard Interior/Exterior Detail from $189 is the better value, because the exterior side effectively costs you $60 on top of the interior work. That is the two sentence version. The longer answer depends on how you use your car and what our foothill environment has been doing to it.
I am a one man operation, so the person reading your booking request is the same person who will be kneeling in your driveway doing the work. When customers in La Crescenta or Montrose are not sure which service to pick, I ask a few questions about the car before I confirm anything. This guide walks through those same questions, so you can decide on your own time instead of guessing from a menu.
The Interior Detail is a full reset of the cabin. I pull the mats, vacuum every surface including seat rails, the trunk, and the crevices where crumbs migrate, then work through the carpets and upholstery with spot shampoo where stains need it. Grimy touchpoints like the steering wheel, shifter, cupholders, and door handles get cleaned properly, not just wiped shiny. Vents and seams get detailed with brushes, and the interior glass is cleaned until it disappears.
Leather seats are cleaned as part of this service, and fabric seats get treated for the everyday staining that builds up from coffee, sunscreen, and kids. I use steam where it earns its keep: sticky residue, dried spills in cupholders, and the film that builds on plastics. What the Interior Detail does not include is anything outside the car. If your paint is covered in dust, pollen, and sprinkler overspray, it will still be covered when I leave, and I would rather tell you that up front.
The Standard Interior/Exterior Detail includes the same interior work, then adds the exterior: a proper hand wash from the roof down, wheels and tires cleaned with dedicated brushes, door jambs wiped out, the car dried by hand, and a coat of wax for protection. Tires get dressed and the exterior glass gets cleaned. It is the service I recommend most often, because most cars in the Crescenta Valley need help on both sides, even when the owner only notices one of them.
The value math is simple. The interior alone is $149. For $60 more, the exterior gets a genuine hand wash and real protection, which is far more than $60 of labor if you priced it on its own. Our local conditions make that exterior step matter: strong sun breaks down unprotected paint, hard water from sprinkler overspray etches spots into glass and horizontal panels, and fire season leaves a film of ash that should never be wiped off dry.
When a customer calls and cannot decide, I ask three things. First, when did the outside of the car last get more than a gas station wash? Second, does anything inside bother you every time you get in: a stain, a smell, dog hair, a sticky console? Third, how is the car used: kid duty, commuting on the 210, trailhead trips, or mostly parked outside? The answers usually make the choice obvious within a minute of honest conversation.
A few patterns come up constantly here. If your dog rides along to Deukmejian or Descanso, the interior is usually the emergency and the Interior Detail handles it, though heavy pet hair takes real extra time and I will tell you if your car needs it. If you commute the 210 or the 2 every day, brake dust, freeway film, and sun exposure argue for the Complete. If the car lives outdoors near sprinklers, the hard water spotting alone justifies the exterior work.

Some cars need more than either service. If the paint feels gritty after washing, shows swirl marks that glare in afternoon sun, or the leather is dry and graying, that is Standard Interior/Exterior Detail territory: clay bar, machine polishing, leather conditioning, and a paint sealant, at $189 for a sedan, $209 for a small SUV or truck, and $189 for a minivan or 3-row. It is a different tier of work, not just a bigger version of the same wash.
Other problems are their own projects. Smoke or mildew odor removal, serious water spot removal, and paint correction are quoted individually because the labor varies so much from car to car. Cloudy headlights are a quick, satisfying fix starting at $50 to start. None of that should scare you off: most cars I see need exactly one of the two services this article is about, and now you know which one yours needs.
