Then I ask about condition, and I ask you to be blunt. Pet hair woven into cargo carpet, a milk spill from last month, smoke odor, water spots from a sprinkler that hits the driveway every morning: each of these changes the tools I load and the hours I block out. Nobody gets judged for a messy car. I see real life every day, and an honest description gets you an accurate quote instead of a surprise.
Because I come to you, the location is part of the job. I ask whether the car will be in a driveway in La Crescenta or an apartment space in Montrose, and whether there is room to open all four doors and work around the vehicle. Shade matters too: on a July afternoon, direct foothill sun changes how products behave on paint, so knowing the setup lets me plan the order of work and the time of day.
For apartments with restrictions on washing, I will talk you through the options: interior work on site with just an outlet, my eco waterless option for light exterior upkeep, or bringing the car to my shop for the full detail. An apartment address in Montrose is a planning detail, not a reason you cannot book. I confirm access details before I arrive so the appointment starts on time.
This is the question that shapes the whole visit: when you picture the car finished, what had to change. Sometimes the answer is everything, and a Standard Interior/Exterior Detail at $189 or a full detail covers it. Just as often it is one specific thing: the hazy headlights, the dog hair, the coffee smell, the water spots etched into the hood. Seeing the spots in a photo, ideally taken in daylight at an angle, lets me quote the actual job the first time.
I ask about deadlines because they change everything. A lease turn-in inspection on Friday, in-laws arriving Saturday, a car being photographed for sale: these need firm scheduling, and I am open 7:30am to 7:30pm every day of the week to make them work. Without a deadline, I will offer the slot where I can give the car unhurried time, which sometimes means suggesting a different day than the one you first asked about.
I also give you a realistic duration, not an optimistic one. An Interior Only Detail from $149 and a Standard Complete at $189 each take a real block of hours, and heavy pet hair, smoke odor treatment, or engine detailing adds time on top. Please do not clean the car before I come. I mean that. Pre-vacuuming hides the true condition, and the quote I gave was for the car you described. What actually helps is removing what only you can sort: paperwork, chargers, kid treasures, anything in the trunk you would rather I not handle. Take valuables and garage remotes inside. Leave the crumbs, the hair, and the stains exactly where they are.
The one thing I will ask you to confirm is access: keys or a lockbox plan if you will be at work, a gate code if the driveway has one, and a parking spot where the car can sit for the duration. Get those settled when we book and the day itself needs nothing from you at all. Most customers hand me keys in the morning and come back to a finished car.
